THAI Resumes Operations on Bangkok-Hong Kong Flight

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) continues to operate regularly scheduled flights to and from Bangkok-Hong Kong and recommends that passengers arrive at the airport earlier than usual. THAI also waived ticket change fees for passengers who missed their flights and had to travel on the next available flight.

Mr. Nond Kalinta, THAI Vice President, Sales, said that THAI was informed by the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Hong Kong that there will be protests held between 6-8 September.  THAI will assist passengers by providing seats on the next available flight.  THAI will waive ticket change fees for passengers who arrived several hours early. In addition, passengers are recommended to arrive at the airport earlier than usual.

THAI remains concerned about the impact on passengers traveling to and from Bangkok-Hong Kong. Passengers who were booked to travel during 1-30 September 2019 may change their flights without any fees and charges, however conditions apply. Ticket changes may be made by 14 October 2019.

THAI is monitoring the situation closely in order to properly assess the situation. Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) continues to operate regularly scheduled flights to and from Bangkok-Hong Kong and recommends that passengers arrive at the airport earlier than usual. THAI also waived ticket change fees for passengers who missed their flights and had to travel on the next available flight.


Mr. Sumeth Damrongchaitham, THAI President, said that THAI was informed by THAI General Manager and Airport Services Manager, Hong Kong on 1 September 2019 that the airport situation was normal but some passengers missed their flights because the MTR to Hong Kong Airport was hindered by protesters and roads to the airport were highly congested. THAI assisted these passengers by providing seats on the next available flight.  THAI waived ticket change fees for passengers who arrived several hours early. In addition, passengers are recommended to arrive at the airport earlier than usual.

Mr. Thaworn Senium, Deputy Minister of Transport, and Mr. Saksayam Chidchob, Minister of Transport, are monitoring the situation closely out of concern for passengers and requested THAI to accommodate all passengers.

THAI Operates Larger Aircraft to Accommodate Passengers Stranded at Hong Kong International Airport

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) transported all THAI passengers and Thai citizens originally booked on other carriers who were stranded in Hong Kong.  It is anticipated that all flights from Bangkok-Hong Kong will operate normally today (15 August 2019).

Mr. Sumeth Damrongchaitham, THAI President, said that Mr. Saksayam Chidchob, Minister of Transport, and Mr. Thaworn Senium, Deputy Minister of Transport, have followed this situation closely in an effort to transport passengers traveling roundtrip from Bangkok-Hong Kong.  THAI has been requested to operate flights immediately, once authorization is granted to operate flights, in order to ensure that no passengers are left behind.  Yesterday (14 August 2019), the High Court of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region issued an interim court injunction to ban protesters from Hong Kong International Airport and compel them to obey orders, thereby prohibiting protests in the airport premises and obstructing passenger arrivals and departures.  THAI was able to transport distressed passengers stranded from flights with other carriers as follows:

•Operated 5 flights from Bangkok-Hong Kong:
Flight TG600/628/606/638/602 on 14 August 2019.
Carried a total of 1,420 passengers, including 1 infant.
•Operated 5 flights from Hong Kong-Bangkok:
Flight TG603/601/629/607/639 on 14 August 2019.
Carried a total of 1,380 passengers, including 6 infants.

THAI’s Station Manager in Hong Kong reported to the Company that the situation at Hong Kong International Airport had improved while under court orders with strict security, entrance and exit restrictions that allow only those with authorized passes, and passengers holding airline tickets to enter the passenger terminal.  THAI’s morning flight TG603 was able to according to the regular schedule, with departure from Hong Kong International Airport at 07.44 hours and arrival at Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 09.25 hours, 289 passengers were carried, all holding reservations, and without any passengers remaining.

Out of concern for passengers, THAI issued a waiver on ticket change fees for tickets issued roundtrip from Bangkok-Hong Kong.  The waiver is valid on tickets issued before 5 August 2019 that specify travel dates from 5-26 August 2019, which may be changed according to conditions that apply.

THAI Operates Larger Aircraft to Accommodate Passengers Stranded at Hong Kong International Airport

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) is operating larger aircraft and has adjusted its flight schedule to accommodate THAI passengers as well as Thai nationals originally booked on other airlines who were stranded at Hong Kong International Airport.

Mr. Sumeth Damrongchaitham, THAI President, said that out of concern for the safety of passengers who are stranded at Hong Kong International Airport as a result of the protest in Hong Kong, Mr. Saksayam Chidchob, Minister of Transport, and Mr. Thaworn Senium, Deputy Minister of Transport, have requested THAI to arrange flights to transport passengers as soon as they are permitted to fly.  Yesterday (13 August 2019) THAI transported both THAI passengers and Thai nationals who were originally booked on other others.  Details are as follows:

•    Five flights from Bangkok to Hong Kong:
Flight TG600/628/638/606/602 on 13 August 2019.
A total of 1,716 passengers departed from Bangkok, which included 11 babies.

•    Four flights from Hong Kong to Bangkok:
Flight TG601/629/639/607 (One flight TG603 was cancelled).
A total of 921 passengers were transported.

As protesters closed off the check-in and immigration entrance area, approximately 150 THAI passengers were stranded and around 60 passengers originally booked on other airlines (approximately 90% were Thai nationals).  THAI made arrangements for passengers to check-in and pass immigration before afternoon that day, in order to board their respective flights.  THAI anticipates that all passengers will be transported by the end of today.

For today’s flights, THAI is operating larger aircraft and has adjusted some flight schedules to accommodate stranded passengers. Details are as follows:

•    Operate larger aircraft:
Flight TG638 from Bangkok to Hong Kong
Flight TG639 from Hong Kong to Bangkok

•    Adjusted flight schedule:
Flight TG602 from Bangkok to Hong Kong on 14 August 2019 Departs at 02.50 hours on 15 August 2019 and arrives at 06.40 hours (local time)

THAI has assigned the THAI General Manager in Hong Kong to coordinate with the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Hong Kong to arrange special flights for Thai nationals who may have been booked on other airlines but remain stranded at Hong Kong’s International Airport.

THAI has issued a waiver on fees for passengers traveling roundtrip from Bangkok-Hong Kong whose tickets were issued prior to 5 August 2019 for travel during the period 5-26 August 2019, allowing them to make ticket changes as specified by the Company.

THAI Resumes Operations on Bangkok-Hong Kong Flight

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) has resumed normal flight operation on Bangkok-Hong Kong route and upsize aircraft to accommodate stranded passengers.

Flt.Lt. Pratana Patanasiri, THAI Vice President, Aviation Safety, Security & Standards, said due to Airport Authority Hong Kong announced the flights cancellation of both inbound and outbound flights at Hong Kong International Airport since 15.30 hours (local time) on 12 August 2019 until 07.00 hours (local time) on 13 August 2019 as protesters swarmed passenger terminal. Today (13 August 2019) Airport Authority Hong Kong announced operational resume at the airport, which allowed THAI to resume its operations. THAI has upsized its aircraft to accommodate 578 THAI stranded passengers and expected to completely transport all stranded passengers by today.

THAI also waived fees and charges on Bangkok-Hong Kong route for passengers who were booked to travel on the affected flights on 12-13 August 2019 to change their itineraries. Adjustments can be made within 20 August 2019 with terms and conditions applied.

THAI Waives Fees on Bangkok-Hong Kong Route due to Flights Cancellation at Hong Kong International Airport

Mr. Nond Kalinta, Executive Vice President, Sales, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) said due to Hong Kong International Airport announced the flights cancellation of both inbound and outbound flights at Hong Kong International Airport since 15.30 hours (local time) on 12 August 2019 until 07.00 hours (local time) on 13 August 2019 whereby THAI had to cancel its flights on the Bangkok-Hong Kong route as follows;
 
• TG606/12 August 2019/Bangkok-Hong Kong 16.00 - 19.45 hours
 
• TG602/12 August 2019/Bangkok-Hong Kong 18.30 - 22.15 hours
 
• TG639/12 August 2019/Hong Kong-Bangkok 19.05 - 20.45 hours
 
• TG607/12 August 2019/Hong Kong-Bangkok 20.45 - 22.25 hours
 
• TG603/13 August 2019/Hong Kong-Bangkok 07.45 - 09.25 hours
 
However, flight TG638/12 August 2019, which departed Bangkok at 13.55 hours and scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong at 17.40 hours (local time) but was not allowed to land at Hong Kong International Airport. The flight diverted back to Bangkok and expected to arrive in Bangkok at 21.10 hours. Other flights on this route will be announced the updated situation later.
 
Passengers who were booked to travel on the affected flights on 12-13 August 2019 may change their itineraries without any fees and charges, and conditions apply.
